Setting Up Your Printer
Using Microsoft Word
Setting Up Your Document:
- Open a blank word document.
- Click file.
- Click Page Setup.
- In this menu pop up, only change the following items:
- Orientation - whether the paper will be held in portrait
or landscape.
- Paper - In this field type your height & width.
- EXAMPLE: if you are working on an 3.5 x 5, you would type
in these exact dimensions.
- *REMEMBER - Margins is not the paper size*.
- Click OK.
- Once these adjustments have been made, begin typing.
- Choose your desired font, size, and color.
- Always save your document.
Using Windows XP
Setting Up Your Document:
- Open a blank word document.
- Click file.
- Click Page Setup.
- In this menu pop up, only change the following items:
- Orientation - whether the paper will be held in portrait

- Page Setup.
- Page Definition.
- Click Printer Page Types - Do not use standard page types.
- Edit - In this field type your height & width.
- EXAMPLE: if you are working on an 3.5 x 5, you would type
in these exact dimensions.
- Click OK.
- *REMEMBER - Margins is not the paper size*.
- Once these adjustments have been made, begin typing.
- Choose your desired font, size, and color.
- Always save your document.
When You Are Ready to Print:
- Always test print on regular printer paper cut to the size you
are working on!
- Place piece of paper into printer and adjust the paper guide.
- Click file.
- Click print.
- Some printers have a Properties button. This button lets
you adjust your printer for different kinds of paper. If you
are working on vellum, select the transparency paper, if you
are working on a cardstock, select the heavyweight. Remember
each program is different use your best judgment.
- Click OK.
- Try printing one sheet of paper at a time or put multiple sheets
in your printer. Each printer responds differently, do what works
best with your printer.
TIP: Most paper prints best on a laser printer.
When using an inkjet printer, allow extra drying time for your
invitation.
